Pratt, who made his movie debut with Rae Dawn Chong’s horror comedy, Cursed: Part III has dominated the box office on several occasions even beyond the MCU’s shadow. Pratt has been active in the industry for over two decades now and he has gained global fame through the MCU franchise but there was a time when he was desperate to join the studio.

But before playing Peter Quill or Star-Lord or the leader of the Guardians, Chris Pratt did not have a remarkable breakthrough to extend his prowess to the global audience. The actor once revealed that he was fascinated with MCU characters and had attempted to get into two prominent roles from other franchises. Appearing in an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the actor revealed that he had his eyes locked in MCU long before Guardians of the Galaxy. “No! God, no!” Pratt said of being concerned about joining the big franchise.

“I had been dying to do something like that my whole career, so no, I’ve been very grateful the whole time. Mostly I set the bar low enough –‘Don’t want to go back to serving food to people’ — and then, superhero was way above that bar. So, I was gonna take it.”

Well, Pratt finally got a leading part in one of the biggest franchises of the studio. Due to its comic elements and Pratt and his co-stars pull it off like pros and James Gunn’s marvelous direction pushed the franchise to a new height. It has always been fun to watch the band of eccentric Guardians roaming in and around space.

Pratt was pretty devastated after being rejected from playing two MCU roles. Pratt revealed that he did audition for Captain America which eventually went to Chris Evans and attempted to grab a role in Thor, however, he did not get a call from the makers of Chris Hemsworth’s franchise. “Oh man, yeah I did [audition for Captain America]. I auditioned for them all,” Pratt recalled.

“I had a rough run with Marvel. I auditioned for Thor, but not even to be Thor! But to be one of the sidekick guys and I didn’t get a callback. Yeah. Usually you get a little bit of feedback and I remember the casting director was like, ‘Wow, you really made a big choice there.’ Which is code for like, ‘Hey, dial back the acting there, guy.’”

Perhaps, it was for the best but it was a bit disappointing for the actor to not get the part to be even a sidekick of the Mighty Thor. When Guardians of the Galaxy was in development, Pratt revealed, he did not even want to go for an audition due to his past experiences with the studio. “It got to the point where I was never gonna audition for Marvel again,” Pratt said. “It was like, ‘This is stupid; I’m never gonna be in a Marvel movie,’” he added. Eventually, Pratt got the lead role and he has done a splendid job pushing the franchise to success with the band of his co-stars.

Pratt will voice the lead character, Garfield in Mark Dindal’s animated comedy Garfield, scheduled for release on 24 May 2024. He will also appear in Russo Brother’s 2024 Netflix sci-fi adventure The Electric State.
