The latest Sony movie has been announced to be hitting Netflix in the United States in February 2024, with the musical Journey to Bethlehem set to arrive on the service beginning February 8th for 18 months.

Directed by Adam Anders, with Anders writing alongside Peter Barsocchini, the movie seeks to take the story from the Bible and bring it to the big screen.

Described as a Christmas musical, here’s the official synopsis courtesy of Sony Pictures:

“A young woman carrying an unimaginable responsibility. A young man torn between love and honour. A jealous king who will stop at nothing to keep his crown. This live-action Christmas musical celebration for the entire family, weaves classic Christmas melodies into new pop songs in a music-infused retelling of the timeless story of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Jesus. A unique new entry into the collection of holiday classic movies, this epic Christmas musical is unlike any before it.”

The cast for the movie includes Fiona Palomo, Milo Manheim, Lecrae, Joel Smallbone, and Antonio Banderas.

The movie is heading to Netflix exactly 90 days following its theatrical premiere on November 10th, 2023, much earlier than other Sony movies have been landing on Netflix.

Netflix didn’t include the movie in its lineup of February 2024 offerings, but that’s often the case for Sony movies. We’ve subsequently listed it in our comprehensive guide for February 2024’s new arrivals.

Lots more Sony movies are planned for release on Netflix throughout 2024 from their theatrical slate, including titles like Thanksgiving, Anyone But You, It Ends with Us, Madame Web, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and more. Also coming to Netflix in February 2024 from Sony is Shortcomings, due out on February 1st.

Although Netflix’s faith-based selection isn’t quite as robust as others, it has been growing. Last year, in 2023, Netflix quietly added a bunch of new faith-based titles, including managing to nab the rights to Angel Studios’ renowned series The Chosen, albeit we’re still waiting for seasons 2 onwards. They also got the SVOD debut for Jesus Revolution last year from Lionsgate.
