The Witcher #1 in Netflix Top 10 as Fans Rush to See Henry Cavill’s Last Episodes

Fans of The Witcher have rushed to Netflix to bask in the final outing of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, with the second half of The Witcher season three now taking the number one spot in the streaming platform’s ‘Top 10.’ The third season of The Witcher is the last time that the popular fantasy series will be led by Man of Steel and Mission: Impossible – Fallout star Henry Cavill, who will depart the role going into season four.

And clearly, fans of The Witcher have been as excited as they are saddened by Cavill’s decision to walk away from the show, flocking to Netflix and putting the series back at the tippy top. With The Witcher in first place, the rest of the top ten includes the romantic drama Sweet Magnolias, the documentary How to Become a Cult Leader, anime series Baki Hanma, and the stand-up comedy show Mark Normand: Soup to Nuts as well as Quarterback, Suits, The Lincoln Lawyer, A Perfect Story, and Too Hot to Handle.

The Witcher season three finds Cavill once again tackling monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent as they compete to capture the powerful Ciri. Geralt takes her into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.

Time will tell whether, following Henry Cavill’s departure, The Witcher will ever be as popular again.

No doubt many will tune in to see how Independence Day: Resurgence and The Hunger Games star fares in the role of Geralt as The Witcher goes into season four. Cavill leaving and Hemsworth stepping in to wield the sword was first announced back in October last year, with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich excited for viewers to see what the actor brings to the role and the series. “I’m so excited for viewers. I think that it’s just a new chapter for us,” she said. “And I think new chapters bring new energy and that people will find things to love. So yeah, personally, I’m really excited.”

Details of how Cavill will be replaced remain largely unknown, but producer Tomek Bagiński has hinted that it could involve some multiversal shenanigans. After praising the work of Schmidt Hissrich and the writers, Bagiński said, “This is a very little thing that I will tease – people who know the books really deeply also know that this is not a typical fantasy book. It’s not just one world. It’s not just one story happening in those books, in those stories. It’s a huge, huge world which is very, very complex… I will stop here!”

The first three seasons of The Witcher are now available to stream on Netflix.
