Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon’s English Translation Arrives Summer 2024

The official English translation of TYPE-MOON’s visual novel remake, Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, will arrive on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in Summer 2024. Aniplex and TYPE-MOON have also announced physical limited editions for US$79.99, with digital editions to be announced at a later date.

Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon first released for PS4 and Switch in August, 2021, remaking the ‘Moon Princess’ and ‘Midnight Rainbow’ routes from the original game, which collectively form the “Near Side of the Moon” portion of the original game.

A press release from Aniplex of America describes Tsukihime as follows:

Tsukihime follows the story of Shiki Tohno, a high school student who begins to see ‘lines of death’ after suffering an accident as a child. Following the death of his father, Shiki moves back home to live with his sister, Akiha Tohno, and begins to uncover dark truths lurking in his hometown. See the reimagined world of Tsukihime through Shiki’s eyes as he unravels mysterious killings and meets both fan-favorite and unexpected new characters.

The visual novel originally released in December 2000, elevating TYPE-MOON beyond their eroge doujinshi status, and paving the way for the multimedia sensation that is Fate/stay night. Original creator and scenario director, Kinoko Nasu, has completely updated Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon for 2010’s Japan (away from its 1990’s original setting).

Animation studio ufotable once again resume their partnership with TYPE-MOON for the opening animation, which is set to ReoNa’s “Seimeisen” (licensed by SACRA MUSIC). Studio ufotable have previously adapted two of the main routes from Fate/stay night, being Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and Fate/stay night: Heaven’s Feel, and have announced a film adaptation of Witch on the Holy Night in 2021, with a scheduled release sometime in 2023.

The second title in the remake series, Tsukihime: The Other Side of Red Garden was announced as an end-game promo for finishing Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon; there is no release date at this time, but The Other Side of Red Garden will collect the three ‘Far-Side’ routes, along with a previously-scrapped route.

Since Tsukihime forms the central part of Nasu’s works, many fans are hopeful that Tsukihime’s remake may be paving the way for a remake of Fate/stay night. In December 2022, an enhanced and remastered version of the 2012 game Witch on the Holy Night was released worldwide Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
